Bellator adds Paul Daley, Shawn Bunch to its roster

While Bellator takes time off between fight seasons, they are keeping busy by adding fighters to their roster. Strikeforce and UFC veteran Paul Daley and Shawn Bunch, a wrestler with international experience, have both signed with the tournament-based promotion.

Daley's getting a fresh start in Bellator after stops in the UFC, Strikeforce and BAMMA. Though he was impressive in two wins in the UFC, his run there is most remembered for a cheap shot at Josh Koscheck after their fight was over and immediately losing his job afterwards. In Strikeforce, he had wins over Scott Smith and Trevor Prangley but lost to Nick Diaz, Tyron Woodley and Kazuo Misaki.

He will make his Bellator debut on July 20 and will fight in the welterweight tournament.

The Bunch signing is a risk for Bellator because he has never been in an MMA match. The two-time NCAA Division I All-American for Edinboro has been on the U.S. national team for five years and narrowly missed making the U.S. Olympic team earlier in June. He will train at American Kickboxing Academy, a camp that has proven successful at transitioning elite wrestlers to MMA.

MMA Fighting reports he has a multi-fight deal and will debut in Bellator's bantamweight tournament this fall.

What do you think of the Bellator signings? Speak your mind on Facebook or Twitter.

Alistair Overeem: ‘I’m all natural’

UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem really wants the world to believe he is a clean fighter, even though he is currently suspended for having elevated testosterone levels before his planned fight with UFC champ Junior dos Santos.

Earlier this week, Overeem tweeted he will be back in December, but UFC executive Lorenzo Fertitta said not so fast. Overeem responded by tweeting about a drug test.

"I'm doing a drug test today to build confidence with the Nevada state athletic commission and because I respect and appreciate the UFC," Overeem wrote. "And to let junior know I am a clean fighter, I'm all natural Junior.. and I am coming for you."

Well, that's a nice gesture, Alistair, but guess what? You're supposed to be clean. You don't get any medals for testing clean on random date of your choosing. This is the equivalent of teenager cleaning the house after being grounded. Though the parents may be pleased to come home to a sparkling house, they're not going to forget about the raging party that happened there days before.

The NAC isn't going to forget about his suspension, and the UFC isn't going to forget how he derailed the main event of one of their biggest cards in 2012.

Cain Velasquez does not have a broken hand

In a summer filled with injury after injury to main event fighters, it's pleasant news when a UFC star is not injured.

Word spread on Wednesday from Junior dos Santos' camp that Cain Velasquez had an injured hand. With Velasquez rumored to face JDS at UFC 152 in September, it was appeared to be another UFC main event blown to bits.

However, Velasquez is doing just fine. The former champ's coach, Javier Mendez, confirmed to MMA Fighting that Velasquez's hand is not broken and they are preparing for him to fight on Sept. 22.

Phew. If you're reading this and you're a UFC star, be careful, OK?

Dana White’s video blog shows Gray Maynard and Clay Guida’s war of words went on after the fight

Though Clay Guida and Gray Maynard fought for five rounds, their rivalry didn't end with the sound of the final horn. FX cameras showed them jawing as they walked out of the cage after Maynard was announced the winner  on Friday night. Dana White's video blog caught their war of words continuing during post-fight medicals. Skip to the 8:30 mark, and as always, be prepared for salty language.

Something tells me this isn't the last time we'll see these two fight. Now that you've watched Guida and Maynard's jawing, go back to see these moments:

-- Though Guida is the "Carpenter," Frankie Edgar may now be the "Electrician." He was called in to turn on a television.

-- After getting his hands taped, Ramsey Nijem quips, "I guess I gotta fight now."

-- "I want to walk." After losing to Steven Siler, Joey Gambino was in no mood to get into a stretcher.

-- Cub Swanson's "Rocky" imitation is spot on.

CagePotato Presents: The Ten Most Ironic Nicknames in MMA

(What?! Every beast needs to take a cat nap every now and again.)  For reasons we will never truly understand, a lot of emphasis seems to be placed on the monikers designated to a given fighter. For guys like Randy "The Natural" Couture, the nickname often represents an extension of a their personality, or an underlying philosophy that they bring into the cage. Guys like Renato "Babalu" Sobral, on the other hand, carry perhaps the most authentic nicknames of them all; names that, although holding little to no meaning in terms of the fight game, were bestowed upon the fighter as a child and simply stuck. And then there are guys like Justin "The Nsane1" McCully, whose nicknames were most likely derived from an ill-fated, drunken AOL Instant Messenger conversation at 3 a.m. with the intent of finding something "fresh" and "intimidating" to bring to the table. But even lower on the nickname totem pole than the Joe Lauzons and the Kendall Groves of the world are the guys whose nicknames completely clash with the public's perception of who they truly are, their gameplan once they step into the ring, or simply their abilities as a fighter in general. So it is with that in mind that we present you with a brief rundown of the top ten fighters who are in desperate need of a name change if they want to continue to be taken seriously. #10 - Sam "Hands of Stone" Stout Not only does Stout have only one knockout to his credit in his 13-fight UFC career, he only has one finish in his UFC career. Granted, the KO he managed to pull off against Yves Edwards at UFC 131 was a freakin' brilliant one, but you don't see Chad Mendes calling himself "The Guillotine Machine" because he was able to pull it off once a couple years ago. Perhaps "Hands of Limestone" would be something a little more appropriate.

Clay Guida says tenacity will be difference in key fight with Gray Maynard

The similarities between Clay Guida and Gray Maynard are striking: Each are elite wrestlers whose striking has come a long way. Each is coming off a loss to a lightweight champion, Guida to Benson Henderson and Maynard to Frankie Edgar. And each man believes he's destined to regain the belt.

The one difference, though, that Guida believes will carry him to victory over Maynard in their five-round lightweight fight Friday in Atlantic City, N.J., is his tenacity.

"Without a doubt, I think that's going to be in my favor," Guida told Cagewriter. "I've been in fights where I've been down and come back. I am never, ever, going to quit or concede in a fight and I think that's a major advantage for me."

Guida's movement and tenacity are two of his trademarks, but he's also at least as well known for his wild, flowing hairstyle. Maynard's new coaches at the American Kickboxing Academy, but not Maynard himself, complained to the New Jersey commission about it.

Guida agreed to put his hair in cornrows to end any controversy before it began and laughed it off as a non-issue.

"I'm not sure what they were trying to do by complaining about that, but whatever it was, it didn't work," Guida said. "I'm here to fight and not talk about my hair."

Guida knows a win over Maynard, who had a draw and a knockout loss to Edgar in back-to-back title fights last year, will go a long way toward getting him his coveted first title shot.

The UFC has promised Nate Diaz a championship shot against the winner of the rematch between Henderson and Edgar at UFC 150, but Guida told Sherdog Radio he believes an impressive win over Maynard could force the UFC brass to rethink its plans.

If I go out there and beat the brakes off of him and really put it on him, I think the UFC is going to have a hard time denying us. I know Nate Diaz is right up there. Yeah, he won three in a row, but look, Gray won six or seven in a row. He hadn't lost for how many years? … [And] I went on a decent little run there. I won four over a couple of tough guys, former world champs, [Takanori] Gomi in Pride and [Anthony] Pettis in the WEC, and I lost a very, very close fight to Ben Henderson. So it's one of those, it all depends on the way of victory.

The five-round fight figures to work to Guida's advantage. One of the reasons for his popularity is his ability to fight at a frenetic pace pretty much all of the time. The pace often slows in the latter stages of a long fight, but Guida insists that will never happen to him.

He said he's better conditioned now, at 30 years old, than he's ever been.

"Five rounds is tailor-made for me," he said. "When I'm done with three rounds, really, I'm just getting loose and ready to go. I go through a grind every day to get to where I am and you haven't seen anything from me in terms of pace and stamina. The longer this fight goes, people are going to be shocked at the way I can go.

"It's a mindset. I refuse to be tired and I have always vowed to work harder than my opponents. I put myself in the worst possible situations in training and I go and go and go. It makes the fight seem easy by comparison."

Urijah Faber vs. Renan Barao moved to UFC 149 after injury to Jose Aldo

The UFC's game of musical chairs continues, as Jose Aldo's bout with Erik Koch for the main event of UFC 149 has been scrapped because of an injury to Aldo. Urijah Faber's bout with Renan Barao was moved to the main event at 149 from being the co-main event at UFC 148.

This is the second change to Faber's bout this summer. After coaching against bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz on "The Ultimate Fighter," the two were slated to face off at UFC 148 in Las Vegas. Now, it's Faber vs. Barao for the interim belt at UFC 149 in Calgary.

It's also the latest in a string of main event changes to UFC events. This summer, the main event at UFC 146 was supposed to feature Alistair Overeem vs. Junior dos Santos, but Overeem's inability to get a license in Nevada gave Frank Mir a chance. UFC 147 was supposed to be at a soccer stadium in Rio de Janeiro for Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva's rematch. After the UFC couldn't get a venue, the bout was moved to UFC 148.

The bad luck continued for UFC 147 as main eventer Vitor Belfort was injured and Rich Franklin had to fill in. UFC on Fox 4 was also hit as Brian Stann's shoulder injury forced him out of the main event against Hector Lombard. Maurico "Shogun" Rua, who was free because of an injury to his UFC 149 opponent Thiago Silva, will now fight Brandon Vera in the main event of the UFC's fourth Fox show.

Even for a sport as dangerous as MMA, that's a crazy run of bad luck. Can the UFC do anything to prevent injuries? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

[EXCLUSIVE] Rare Sh!t Talk From Wanderlei Silva

(Wanderlei after hearing Chael Sonnen dismiss churrascarias as "jungle bar-b-que") Few fighters embody the philosophy of "don't talk about it, be about it," more than former Pride middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva. "The Axe Murderer" has always preferred action over rhetoric and so trash talk from him has been rare over the years. That's what makes it so fun when he actually does talk smack. About a month ago I interviewed Wanderlei for the UFC and Yahoo! Sports about his upcoming UFC 147 main event, which takes place tonight. At the time he was scheduled to rematch his nemesis Vitor Belfort, but now he's fighting Rich Franklin. The animosity Wanderlei has for Vitor is such that he had no problem talking trash about him. Unfortunately, when the opponents changed, those quotes were lost to the world...until now. Below is not a traditional interview, but rather Wanderlei Silva trash talk highlights from that conversation in May. When prompted, Wanderlei had a lot to say about Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort both, ranging from topics of respect, to cowardice to the difference between "big balls," and non-functioning testicles. I enjoyed hearing it all from the man himself so much that I had to share it with you, taters. Bon appetite.

Justin Lawrence made his mark with a headkick KO (VIDEO)

Though Friday night and "The Ultimate Fighter" finale belonged to Michael Chiesa and Martin Kampmann, Justin Lawrence made a mark with his third-round knockout of John Cofer. Skip 20 seconds into the video to see fighting start.

Lawrence was a favorite heading into "The Ultimate Fighter" and Team Cruz's first pick, but a loss to Chiesa in the quarterfinal round of the show derailed his hopes to win the show. Do you think he'll make a name for himself in the UFC? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

[VIDEO] ONE FC 4: Destiny of Warriors Main Card, in Its Entirety

It may have been merely a footnote to most fans in an already sub-par chapter of MMA events, but this weekend's ONE FC 4 gave fans a quick fix for soccer kicks, quick stoppages and some lesser-known talent making names for themselves. But before we get to that, let's talk about the names you're already familiar with. Roger Huerta took to the cage at welterweight looking to rebound from an ugly TKO at the hands of War Machine. His initial opponent, Phil Baroni, was forced off of the card due to an ugly knockout loss at the hands of Chris Holland at Ring of Fire 43 earlier this month. Replacing "The New York Badass" was Zorobabel Moreira, a tall lightweight sporting a 6-1 record before the bout. If "El Matador" was looking to break out of his recent slump, Moreira was, on paper, the perfect opportunity.

UFC 147: Silva vs. Franklin II — Live Results and Commentary

("You look very familiar, bro. Verrrrry familiar." / Image via buzzbox.com) The UFC makes its first stop in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, tonight for an extraordinarily cursed card that, let's face it, we probably wouldn't be watching if it wasn't our job. Wanderlei Silva is fighting Rich Franklin again, this time at a 190-pound catchweight. (Also known as "middleweight plus.") Fabricio Werdum is battling fellow big-man Mike Russow. And some guys from TUF Brazil are fighting too, although not all of the ones who should be. It is what it is. I'm guessing that very few of you will be buying this card, but if you're out doing something more interesting tonight, please use your smart phones to follow along when you can. Handling the thankless liveblog duties for this evening is Anthony Gannon, who will be layin' down round-by-round updates from the UFC 147 pay-per-view main card after the jump, beginning at 10 p.m. ET. Refresh the page every few minutes for all the latest. And to prevent this from becoming the least-commented CagePotato liveblog of all time, I encourage you to use the comments section to discuss anything that comes to mind. Seriously, it doesn't have to be UFC related. I'll give you a topic to start off with: Germany invaded Poland earlier today. Do you think America should get involved?
