Strikeforce cancels Nov. 3 event, much to main eventer Daniel Cormier’s surprise

Strikeforce announced by press release today that their planned Nov. 3 event is canceled, and they won't be doing a fight until January of 2013. Injuries to main eventers Frank Mir and Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold forced this decision.

From the press release:

"Due to a series of injuries, we were forced to cancel the upcoming card on Nov. 3, but are already working to put together a stacked card in January," STRIKEFORCE CEO Scott Coker said.

"While we're disappointed with the cancellation, we are looking forward to an even bigger STRIKEFORCE event on SHOWTIME early next year," said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President & General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports.

This is the second straight cancellation of a Strikeforce event. They canceled a Sept. 29 event because lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez was injured. The promotion is planning to move forward with a January card that will be announced shortly.

The cancellation took Daniel Cormier by surprise. As the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix champ, he was supposed to fight Mir on the Nov. 3 card. After Mir was injured, Strikeforce tried unsuccessfully to find a replacement to fight Cormier.

"I wish somebody would have told me something," he told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani. "This is unbelievable. I'm very upset. I just want to be informed. That's all. I don't think that's asking for too much."

Now Cormier and the rest of the Strikeforce fighters need to wait to see if they'll be on the January card.
